Thunder Ridge

Thunder Ridge Campground is one of two campgrounds within the Rampart Reservoir Recreation Area, located on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains due north of Pikes Peak. At 9,200 feet elevation, the campground is nestled in a ponderosa pine forest with surrounding terrain that includes grass meadows, spruce, Douglas fir, and aspen. The campground overlooks Rampart Reservoir, which is stocked with rainbow and mackinaw trout. The campground has 21 standard nonelectric sites with parking areas at least 30 feet wide. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Facilities include vault toilets (two ADA accessible), drinking water, and trash collection. Sites 7, 8, and 21 are developed for disabled accessibility. Firewood is available for purchase on-site. The 14-mile Rampart Reservoir Trail provides access to hiking and mountain biking. Nearby attractions include tours of the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and the town of Green Mountain Falls.

Directions

From the I-25 and Hwy 24 intersection in Colorado Springs, travel west on Highway 24 for 17.4 miles to Baldwin St. in Woodland Park. Turn right (north) on Baldwin, which becomes Rampart Range Road. Travel approximately 3 miles to Loy Creek Road, turn right at the Y, and travel 1.5 miles to Forest Road 300 (Rampart Range Road). Turn right (south). The Rampart Reservoir Recreation Area entrance is approximately 4 miles on the left. Thunder Ridge Campground is 0.7 miles on the left.
