About

Lumber River State Park protects over 115 miles of the Lumber River, a designated National Wild and Scenic River and one of the most pristine blackwater rivers in North Carolina. The dark, tea-colored waters flow past towering bald cypress trees draped in Spanish moss, creating an exceptional paddling experience through the Coastal Plain. Camping is primitive at both access points. Princess Ann Access offers 10 individual tent sites plus a group site, with paddle-in camping and walk-in group camping with an overflow area. Chalk Banks Access has 15 individual sites and a group site, featuring drive-in tent camping and paddle-in camping. Both areas have bathroom facilities, boat ramps, hiking trails, and picnic areas. Sites CB3 and PA1 are accessible for those with limited mobility. The two access areas are located approximately one hour apart, so campers should verify they are heading to the correct location. The park is open year-round except Christmas Day, making it suitable for all-season camping in this mild Southeastern climate.
