Freezing Fog Advisory issued January 19 at 7:59AM EST until January 19 at 8:00AM EST by NWS Wilmington NC
Widespread freezing fog is quickly dissipating this morning. There may still be patches of freezing fog for another hour or so in parts of Bladen, Columbus, and Robeson counties.
Special Weather Statement issued January 18 at 8:14PM EST by NWS Wilmington NC
Lingering water on surfaces from rainfall on Sunday will create patchy black ice on area roads into early Monday morning. Icy spots could form on paved surfaces such as bridges and overpasses, primary and secondary roads, parking lots, sidewalks and driveways. Black ice is difficult to see and distinguish from dry surfaces. The deceptive nature of black ice can catch you unaware while you are driving or walking, causing you to lose control of your motor vehicle or to slip and fall.
About
Lake Waccamaw State Park offers a primitive camping experience in Columbus County, North Carolina, with five campsites nestled beneath the trees along the shores of Lake Waccamaw. Four sites accommodate groups ranging from 25 to 35 people, while the fifth is a yurt campsite with a permanent tent structure for up to 6 people. All campsites are hike-in only and do not have water or electricity onsite. Each campsite features picnic tables, fire circles, and charcoal grills. Pit toilets are located nearby for camper convenience. The park provides access to over nine miles of hiking trails, including the scenic Lakeshore Trail, as well as boating and fishing opportunities on Lake Waccamaw. All campers must check in at the visitor center or with a ranger before occupying a campsite and display a parking pass for overnight parking. Located 38 miles west of Wilmington and 12 miles east of Whiteville, the park is accessible via US 74. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance through the North Carolina State Parks reservation system. The front gate is locked at posted closing times, and visitors not camping overnight must exit before closing.
