Located in the Warner Mountains of Modoc National Forest, Soup Springs Campground is designed as a family campground that also accommodates equestrian users. The facility provides dedicated horse corrals near the trailhead, separate from the camping area, as horses are not permitted within the campground itself. Two trailheads originate from the area and converge a short distance from the campground, providing access to the central portion of the South Warner Wilderness. The campground sits at a high elevation in a remote part of northeastern California, where visitors can experience solitude and access pristine wilderness terrain. The area receives light use compared to other forest campgrounds, making it ideal for those seeking a quiet mountain camping experience. Sites include picnic tables and fire pits, with vault toilets available. Potable water has not been available since 2022, so campers must bring their own water supply. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations. Access requires traveling several miles on forest roads from the small community of Likely, with the final approach on Forest Road 40N24.

Directions

From Alturas, go south on US Highway 395 approximately 18 miles to Likely. Turn east on County Road 64 (Jess Valley Road) and go 3.2 miles to Blue Lake Road and West Warner Road. Turn left (northeast) on West Warner Road for 5 miles to Forest Road 40N24. Turn right on 40N24 and go 4.5 miles to the campground.
