Silver Springs State Park combines historic Florida charm with one of the state's largest and most pristine natural springs. The campground sits amid oak and pine shade along the five-mile Silver River, offering 59 sites in two loops: Fort King and Sharpes Ferry. All sites feature water and electric hookups with recently upgraded 50-amp service, and 12 sites offer full hookups including sewer. Each site comes equipped with a fire ring, barbecue grill, and picnic table. Two modern bathhouses serve the campground with hot showers and flush toilets. The park's main attraction is its crystal-clear first-magnitude spring, famous for glass-bottom boat tours that have operated here since 1878. Wildlife viewing is exceptional, with regular sightings of manatees, alligators, turtles, and abundant bird species. The Silver River Museum and Environmental Education Center provides educational programs, and the Pioneer Cracker Village offers a glimpse into 19th-century Florida frontier life. Beyond camping, visitors can kayak or paddleboard the pristine spring run, hike miles of trails through scrub and sandhill ecosystems, or fish from the riverbanks. Ten cabins are also available for those preferring more amenities. The campground's proximity to Ocala provides convenient access to supplies while maintaining a natural, secluded atmosphere.
