About

Shangri-La Trailhead and Campground occupies a scenic stretch of rolling sandhills along the southern boundary of the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway in Marion County. The campground's 24 pull-through sites sit on compacted shell and are designed with equestrians in mind, though they accommodate RVs, trailers, and tent campers equally well. Sites are primitive with no individual hookups, but communal water is available and generators are permitted outside quiet hours. The facility includes a full bathhouse with showers and accessible restrooms, a dump station, two horse wash racks, and two covered picnic pavilions. Day-use visitors can access the equestrian and bike trailhead without a fee. A single-track trail from Shangri-La connects to the greenway's internationally-recognized 63.4-mile mountain bike network, which includes the famous Santos trails. Hikers can pick up a 3.5-mile moderate-difficulty segment of the Florida National Scenic Trail, marked with orange blazes. The campground operates year-round with hosts on-site 365 days. Reservations are available through the Florida State Parks reservation system up to 11 months in advance. Pets are welcome but must be leashed when outside the camping unit and confined during quiet hours from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
