About

Lake Shore Group Campground is situated on the north shore of Fore Lake in Ocala National Forest, designed specifically for scout troops, church groups, civic organizations, and large family reunions. The facility can accommodate up to 50 guests and offers both shaded and sunny campsites, all within view of the 12-acre lake. The centerpiece is a large accessible picnic shelter ideal for group gatherings, complemented by a group grill, picnic tables, and a restroom building with flush toilets and showers. Fore Lake is surrounded by marshes and forested landscape featuring saw palmetto and oak trees, creating an excellent habitat for birding. The lake permits electric-motor boats, canoes, and kayaks with a boat ramp available for launching. While swimming is allowed, visitors should be aware that alligators inhabit the lake. Fishing is popular along the shore, though prohibited within 50 yards of the boat ramp. The campground is located near the historic community of Scrambletown, which has a local store. The campground operates on a reservation system through Recreation.gov with a gate requiring a combination for entry. Check-in is at 3:00 PM and check-out at 11:00 AM. Bears and raccoons frequent the area, requiring all food to be kept in approved containers. The facility has a 14-day stay limit within any 30-day period across all Ocala National Forest campgrounds. No hookups are available, and gasoline-powered boats are not permitted on the lake.
