About

Nestled along the shore of 308-acre Lake Eaton in Ocala National Forest's Big Scrub region, Lake Eaton Campground offers an intimate camping experience with just 14 primitive sites. The shallow, broad lake is surrounded by extensive shoreline perfect for fishing, birding, and wildlife watching. The campground provides vault toilets but no hookups or potable water, making it ideal for self-sufficient campers seeking a rustic experience. Both campers and day-use visitors can access the boat ramp and accessible fishing pier at the end of the campground road. An interpretive nature trail provides opportunities to explore the surrounding scrub habitat. The campground operates seasonally from October through May, with quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and a 14-day stay limit within any 30-day period across all Ocala National Forest campgrounds. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance through Recreation.gov. The site fills quickly on weekends, so advance planning is recommended. Lake access for fishing and wildlife viewing remains open year-round, even when the campground is closed for the summer season.
