About

Sierra Campground is located on the north bank of the North Yuba River between Sierra City and Yuba Pass in the Tahoe National Forest. The campground sits in a mature fir forest with many sites overlooking the creek-sized river. With 16 tent-only campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring, this is a rustic camping destination ideal for those seeking a quieter experience. The area offers excellent recreational opportunities including access to the Pacific Crest Trail, fishing in the North Yuba River for rainbow and brook trout, gold panning, and hiking on a large network of trails. Nearby Sardine Lakes, about 5 miles from the campground, provides boating, fishing, and swimming opportunities. The Lakes Basin area features over 30 miles of maintained trails for hiking, mountain biking, and motorcycle use. The historic towns of Sierra City and Downieville are nearby and offer restaurants, shops, and cultural attractions. Bears frequent the area, and all food must be stored in approved containers. The campground has vault toilets and water must be treated or filtered from the river. RVs are not recommended due to limited turnaround space, and there are no hookups or showers available.
