About
Haven Lake Campground is a small, primitive campground with just 4 sites located at 6,700 feet elevation in the Lakes Basin Recreation Area of Plumas National Forest. The campground sits near Haven Lake, one of over 20 scenic alpine lakes in this glacially carved region of the northern Sierra Nevada. Access to some campsites requires navigating rough unpaved roads, making this destination best suited for smaller RVs or tent campers. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and bear-proof food locker. The campground provides vault toilets but no potable water, so visitors must bring their own. The surrounding area offers excellent opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding among breathtaking alpine scenery. The Lakes Basin area features numerous trails connecting the various lakes, providing opportunities for day hikes and exploration of this remote corner of the Sierra. The campground is located along Gold Lake Highway, accessed via Highway 89 from Graeagle. Due to its high elevation, the campground typically operates only during the summer and early fall months when snow has cleared from the access roads. The site operates on a first-come, first-served basis with a 14-day stay limit and accommodates up to 6 people and 2 vehicles per site.
Directions
From Graeagle, take Highway 89 southeast for 2 miles. Turn south on Gold Lake Highway and proceed for approximately 12 miles to Haven Lake Campground.
