About

Originally built around 1929 as a seasonal headquarters for Forest Service management of timber and rangelands, the Sherman Guard Station and Bunkhouse offers a rustic mountain retreat in the Bridger-Teton National Forest. The facility sits in the beautiful Horse Creek drainage, surrounded by willows, pines, and summer wildflowers, with Horse Creek running nearby and abundant wildlife viewing opportunities. Both the guard station and bunkhouse feature full kitchens equipped with propane stovetops, gas refrigerators, and cookware. Bunk beds with mattresses are provided, though guests must bring their own bedding. A wood stove provides heat, and solar power is available. Summer visitors enjoy flush toilets and showers when water is operational from mid-June through mid-September. A vault toilet serves winter guests. The location provides access to excellent recreational opportunities year-round. Summer activities include fishing in Horse Creek, hiking, and horseback riding, with Granite Hot Springs about 50 miles away and Jackson Hole within 70 miles. Winter brings premier snowmobiling access via the Horse Creek Winter Trailhead, though cabin access requires travel over snow by snowmobile, skis, or on foot.
