About

Palisades Campground is a free primitive campground in the Custer Gallatin National Forest, situated at the end of Palisades Road #2010 near Red Lodge, Montana. The campground sits just below Red Lodge Mountain Ski Resort and the striking palisades geological formation that gives it its name. With only 6 sites and a maximum trailer length of 16 feet, this is best suited for tent campers and small camping setups. The campground offers basic amenities including accessible vault toilets, but campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash. Some sites are equipped with bear-resistant food storage lockers. There is no campground host and firewood is not provided. Campers should obtain firewood locally to prevent the spread of tree-killing insects. Two trails depart from the western end of the campground: Willow Creek Trail (#105) and Palisades Trail (#109). Dogs are allowed on Willow Creek Trail year-round, but due to wintering moose habitat, dogs are not permitted on Palisades Trail from December 1 through July 1, except for legal hunting purposes.

Directions
