About

Shepherds Rim Campground is a scenic high-elevation campground located at Trappers Lake in the White River National Forest. At 9,720 feet, the campground offers 15 sites surrounded by glacier-carved mountains and pothole lakes characteristic of the Flat Tops region. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and bear-proof food locker. Trappers Lake is known as the Cradle of Wilderness and contains a strain of native Colorado River cutthroat trout. The lake lies entirely within the Flat Tops Wilderness, where motorized boats and wheeled carts for boat transport are prohibited. The Colorado Parks and Wildlife operates a spawn collection station at the Cabin Creek inlet during May and June. The campground provides vault toilets, drinking water, and bear-proof trash receptacles. An RV dump station is available within the larger Trappers Lake complex. Shepherds Rim is the only campground at Trappers Lake that accepts advance reservations; the other campgrounds in the area are first-come, first-served.
