Elizabeth Furnace Group Camp

About

Elizabeth Furnace Group Camp provides a forested retreat along Passage Creek in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests. Named for the historic iron furnace that once operated here, the area combines natural beauty with industrial heritage. Two group camping areas are available: Site A accommodates up to 50 people, while Site B handles groups of up to 25. The campground features vault toilets year-round but no potable water on-site. Campers must bring their own water supply. Campfires are permitted, and pets are welcome on leashes. The area sits in a potential flash flood zone, so campers should be aware of weather conditions. Recreation opportunities abound, including hiking the interpretive Pig Iron and Charcoal Trail, fishing for stocked trout in Passage Creek, and exploring the historic cabin via the swinging bridge. The campground enforces quiet hours from 10 PM to 6 AM and prohibits alcohol.
