About

Shakamak State Park provides a peaceful camping experience in southern Indiana with 164 campsites accommodating a variety of camping styles. The campground includes 8 full hookup sites, 114 electric sites, and 42 non-electric sites, with approximately two-thirds located in shaded wooded areas. The park's Maple Loop features 10 sites including two paved, accessible options. The park centers around three man-made lakes totaling 400 acres of water for fishing and boating. Lake Shakamak, Lake Lenape, and Lake Kickapoo offer opportunities for kayaking, rowboating, and paddleboating, with rentals available seasonally. A family aquatic center provides swimming during summer months. Over 11 miles of moderate hiking trails wind through oak forests and pine plantings along scenic lakeshores, offering wildlife viewing opportunities including white-tailed deer and waterfowl. Camping amenities include a dump station, camp store, picnic shelters, playfield areas, tennis and basketball courts, and a nature center with seasonal interpretive programs.
