Mccormicks Creek State Park

McCormick's Creek State Park holds the distinction of being Indiana's first state park, established in 1916 in Owen County near Spencer. The park encompasses over 1,900 acres of rugged terrain featuring limestone canyons carved by McCormick's Creek, culminating in a scenic waterfall. The campground offers both electric sites with modern amenities and primitive tent camping areas set among the park's forested hills. The park provides extensive recreational opportunities including over seven miles of hiking trails ranging from easy to difficult, a seasonal swimming pool, tennis courts, and horseback riding through the on-site saddle barn. The nature center offers daily interpretive programs, and the Canyon Inn provides full-service dining and lodging. Group camps with barracks and dining halls are available for larger gatherings. The campground underwent major reconstruction following an EF-3 tornado that struck on March 31, 2023. The rebuild, funded with $25 million from state appropriations, includes modernized campsites, new comfort stations, playgrounds, and improved infrastructure throughout the campground area.

Directions

From Indianapolis, take I-70 west to SR 46 west at Brazil. Continue on SR 46 through Spencer to the park entrance on the north side of the highway. From Bloomington, take SR 46 east approximately 14 miles to the park entrance.
