About
Shabbona Lake State Recreation Area encompasses 1,550 acres in DeKalb County, centered around a 319-acre lake popular for fishing and boating. The campground provides 150 Class A Premium sites across three loops: Teal Bay, Canvasback Cove, and Merganser Circle. Ninety sites accept advance reservations through ExploreMoreIL, while 60 remain first-come, first-served. Every site includes electric hookups, a picnic table, and fire ring with vehicle access. Facilities include a campground store offering firewood, ice, groceries, snacks, camping supplies, fishing tackle, and boat rentals. Shower buildings with restrooms serve the camping areas, and a sanitary dump station is available. The park also features two rustic rent-a-camp cabins on the lakeshore (May 1 through October 31) and a youth group camping area accommodating up to 100 campers. Beyond camping, the park offers an ADA-accessible fishing pier, an 8-foot-wide ADA boat dock, and the Touch the Earth Trail, an 814-foot crushed limestone wheelchair-accessible path. Winter activities include cross-country skiing and snowmobiling when conditions permit. Alcohol is prohibited throughout the park.
