About

Sevenfathom Bay Cabin is a remote USFS rental cabin located 22 miles southeast of Sitka on the southwest side of Baranof Island, just outside the South Baranof Wilderness Area. Built in 1991 by local Sitka volunteers, the 16x16 ft A-frame structure features a sleeping loft accessed by vertical ladder, plywood bunks, table and benches, a wood heating stove, and cooking counter. A mooring buoy with 90 ft of chain is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors must be entirely self-sufficient. There is no potable water; water from a nearby inlet stream must be treated. All garbage and food must be packed out. Bring sleeping bags and pads, cooking stove, cookware, food, toilet paper, lantern, garbage bags, fire extinguisher, and rain gear. Brown bears frequent the area. Nearby recreation includes saltwater fishing, deer hunting, and hiking the surrounding terrain. The popular Goddard Hot Springs with soaking tubs is about 20 minutes north by boat. The South Baranof Wilderness Area is accessible within 5 minutes by boat.

Directions
