About
Kanga Bay Cabin sits above a sloping sand and pebble beach facing southeast, with distant views of snow-capped peaks over Redoubt Bay. The surrounding spruce and hemlock forest is home to deer, brown bear, and various seabirds. Built in 1998 by local volunteers, this 15x17 foot Pan Abode-style cabin features a wood stove for heat, table with benches, cooking counter, and a small front deck. The cabin has one double plywood bunk and one single bunk on the main level, with a staircase leading to an open sleeping loft containing two additional single bunks. An outhouse is located close to the cabin, and a stream 100 feet away provides water that must be treated before use. Visitors must bring their own sleeping bags, pads, cooking stove, cookware, food, toilet paper, lantern, garbage bags, and fire starter. Popular nearby attractions include Goddard Hot Springs, about a 20-minute boat ride south, with soaking pools open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. Redoubt Lake, approximately 30 minutes away by boat, offers fishing for sockeye and coho salmon during August. The bay is excellent for kayaking, though visitors must provide their own kayaks.
