About

Scout Camp is located on the Carson River Ranch section of Fort Churchill State Historic Park, adjacent to the scenic Carson River. This large, dispersed camping and day-use area caters to equestrians and mixed-use campers seeking a primitive outdoor experience in Nevada's high desert landscape. The site provides basic amenities including picnic tables, fire rings with grill tops, one vault toilet, and multiple horse corrals for equestrian visitors. No potable water or electricity is available, and the area operates on a carry-in, carry-out trash policy. Horse owners must pick up and dispose of manure in the designated manure dump or pack it out. Fort Churchill State Historic Park preserves the adobe ruins of an 1861 Army post that once guarded the Pony Express route. Campers at Scout Camp can explore the historic fort ruins via designated trails, fish and swim in the Carson River, and enjoy the quiet solitude of this high desert setting.

Directions

From Fort Churchill State Historic Park, continue across the Carson River and turn left onto Simpson Road. Follow for approximately 1 mile; the campground is down the dirt road on the left.
