About

Scout Camp is a rustic, dispersed campground situated on the Carson River Ranch section of Fort Churchill State Historic Park, adjacent to the scenic Carson River. This campground caters primarily to equestrian campers, featuring multiple horse corrals and a large open camping area beneath cottonwood trees. The site includes basic amenities such as picnic tables, fire rings with grill tops, and one vault toilet, but no electricity or water is available on-site. As a carry-in, carry-out area, campers must pack out all trash, and horse manure must be picked up and carried out or disposed of in the designated manure dump. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Located about a mile down Simpson Road from the main Fort Churchill park area, Scout Camp offers a more primitive camping experience near the Carson River, where visitors can enjoy fishing, bird watching, and access to nearby trails.

Directions

From Silver Springs, travel south on US Highway 95 for about 9 miles to Fort Churchill State Historic Park. Continue across the Carson River and turn left onto Simpson Road. Scout Camp is approximately one mile down Simpson Road on the south side of the river.
