About

At the foot of the Virginia Range on the banks of the Carson River, Dayton State Park Campground offers 10 campsites in a scenic setting rich with gold and silver mining history. The park features the remains of the Rock Point Mill built in 1861, one of the first mills to process ore from the Comstock Lode. Each campsite can accommodate RVs up to 34 feet and includes a picnic table and barbecue, with flush toilets and a dump station available. The campground operates year-round with sites available both by reservation and first-come, first-served. Visitors can enjoy catch-and-release fishing for walleye, white bass, hybrid wiper, catfish, and trout in the Carson River, or explore two short hiking trails connecting the campground to the river and historic mill site. The park's 160 acres feature typical Great Basin desert flora including cottonwoods, sage, and willows, with opportunities to spot hawks, foxes, mule deer, and porcupines. Camping is limited to seven days in a 30-day period.
