About
Lahontan State Recreation Area Equestrian Campground is a dedicated horse camping area located in the Silver Springs portion of this 69-mile-shoreline reservoir recreation area in Nevada's high desert. The facility offers a large open parking area that can accommodate multiple horse trailers and large rigs, along with a large roundpen, two open pens, two shaded pens, and hitching posts throughout. Fire pits and grills are available for campfire cooking, and a covered picnic pavilion sits nearby. Water is available on site via handpump, and restrooms are accessible in the area. Seasonal showers and flush toilets operate from late May through September; during the off-season (October through May), only vault toilets are available. Sanitary dump stations are located near both park entrances. The campground provides access to hundreds of miles of sandy trails that wind around Lahontan Reservoir and through the surrounding desert landscape of cottonwoods, willows, and sand dunes. The terrain is non-technical with minimal elevation change, ideal for relaxed trail riding. Spring and fall offer the most comfortable riding conditions, as summer temperatures can be quite high. Spring riders should bring insect repellent.
