About

Sawmill Campground is a quiet, primitive campground tucked away in the Angeles National Forest at 5,200 feet elevation. The campground offers 8 first-come, first-served sites, each equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and bear-proof storage locker. Recent improvements funded by the Great American Outdoors Act have upgraded the fire rings, added new information boards, and improved drainage features throughout the site. This is a pack-it-in, pack-it-out experience with vault toilets available but no potable water, showers, or hookups. RVs up to 16 feet are accommodated, though the forest roads and site sizes make this campground better suited for tents, truck campers, and small trailers. An Adventure Pass or America the Beautiful Pass is required. Access is currently limited to Pine Canyon Road from the community of Lake Hughes. The route via Old Ridge Route is closed due to a washout on Forest Road 7N23. From Lake Hughes, travel west on Pine Canyon Road for 7.8 miles to Forest Road 7N23, then continue 7.3 miles to the campground on the left.

Directions

From the community of Lake Hughes, proceed west on Pine Canyon Road for 7.8 miles to Forest Road 7N23. Continue on 7N23 for 7.3 miles; Sawmill Campground is on the left. Do not attempt access from Old Ridge Route due to road washout.
