About

Spunky Campground sits in a remote section of Angeles National Forest along Spunky Canyon Road, offering a quiet escape from the more developed campgrounds in the forest. The 10 primitive campsites are spread through a landscape of chaparral-covered hills typical of the western Angeles. At roughly 3,100 feet elevation, temperatures can range from the 30s in winter to the 90s in summer. This is a pack-it-in, pack-it-out style camping experience with vault toilets but no potable water. Campers must bring all their own water and supplies. The campground operates on a first-come-first-served basis with no reservations available. A National Forest Adventure Pass is required for all parked vehicles. The Pacific Crest Trail passes within a mile of the campground, providing access to longer backcountry routes. The surrounding Bouquet Canyon area offers additional hiking opportunities. The campground's remote location keeps crowds minimal, though it also means limited cell service and no nearby services.

Directions

From Castaic, drive 6 miles south on Interstate 5 to the Magic Mountain Parkway exit. Take the exit and drive east to Valencia Boulevard. Turn left and drive about 2 miles to Bouquet Canyon Road. Turn north on Bouquet Canyon Road and drive approximately 15 miles. Turn left on Spunky Canyon Road and drive 4 miles to the campground.
