About

Upper Shake Campground sits at 4,300 feet elevation in the Los Angeles Gateway District of Angeles National Forest, near San Fernando. This small, primitive campground provides a quiet escape into the forest with opportunities for hiking, backpacking, and picnicking in the surrounding area. The campground features vault toilets but no potable water, requiring campers to bring their own water supply. When operational, overnight camping costs $5 per night for a single site, with day use at $5 per vehicle. Interagency Senior/Access Recreation Passes provide a 50% discount on single campsites. The campground is currently closed due to an improvement project. No reopening date has been announced. Campers should contact the Los Angeles Gateway District Office for current status updates.
