About
Upper Shake Campground is a primitive campground situated along Shake Creek in the Los Angeles Gateway District of Angeles National Forest. At an elevation of 4,300 feet, this lightly-used campground offers a quiet retreat in a wooded setting. The campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire pits at each site, though campers must bring their own water as none is available on-site. Access requires an Adventure Pass or America the Beautiful Pass for day use, with overnight camping fees of $5 per night when the facility is operational. The campground serves as a trailhead for backpacking and hiking opportunities in the surrounding forest. Dogs are permitted but must be kept on leash at all times. The area is subject to seasonal fire restrictions which may prohibit campfires and portable stoves during periods of extreme or critical fire danger. When open, the campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations.
