Levels of particle pollution can vary by time and location depending on fire activity and local weather conditions. * WHEN...until 10 PM on Thursday. * IMPACTS...Particles in wildfire smoke can get deep into the lungs and cause serious health problems such as heart attacks, strokes, asthma attacks, and difficulty breathing. Everyone can be affected, but people with lung or heart disease, older adults, people who are pregnant, children, and those who spend a lot of time outdoors are at greater risk.

Upper Shake Campground sits at 4,300 feet elevation in the Los Angeles Gateway District of Angeles National Forest, near San Fernando. This small, primitive campground provides a quiet escape into the forest with opportunities for hiking, backpacking, and picnicking in the surrounding area. The campground features vault toilets but no potable water, requiring campers to bring their own water supply. When operational, overnight camping costs $5 per night for a single site, with day use at $5 per vehicle. Interagency Senior/Access Recreation Passes provide a 50% discount on single campsites. The campground is currently closed due to an improvement project. No reopening date has been announced. Campers should contact the Los Angeles Gateway District Office for current status updates.
Directions
From Castaic, take Lake Hughes Road northeast for 27 miles to Lake Hughes. Turn left on Pine Canyon Road (County Road N2) and drive about 5.5 miles to the entrance road on the left.
