...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 6 PM MST ACROSS EAST CENTRAL NEW MEXICO DUE TO STRONG WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITY... ..Stronger winds will develop today with very dry air also moving in. This will create critical fire weather and a higher risk for rapid fire spread. The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Red Flag Warning...which is in effect from 11 AM this morning to 6 PM MST this evening. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. * AREA AND TIMING...This includes much of northeastern and east central New Mexico (Fire Weather Zones 104, 123, 125, and 126) with the greatest area of concern focused in San Miguel, Guadalupe, Quay, and Curry counties. The warning is in effect from 11 AM through 6 PM MST Monday. * 20 FOOT WINDS...Sustained from the west and southwest at 20 to 25 mph with occasional gusts up to 35 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Falling to 7 to 13 percent in the late afternoon Monday. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Santa Rosa Lake State Park provides a full-service camping experience on a reservoir in eastern New Mexico's high plains. The park features developed campgrounds including Rocky Point, Juniper Park, and Los Tanos Campground, which welcomes equestrians. With approximately 90 total campsites, including 25 sites with electric hookups, the park accommodates both RVs and tent campers. Pull-through sites are available for larger rigs. The park offers excellent water recreation with boat ramps and docks for motorized and non-motorized watercraft. Anglers can fish the lake year-round with a New Mexico fishing license. On land, visitors can explore hiking trails through desert landscapes and grasslands, with abundant wildlife viewing opportunities. The visitor center provides information about the reservoir and dam construction history. Amenities include showers, restrooms, a dump station, picnic areas with tables and grills, a playground, and group shelters. Located just off historic Route 66 near the town of Santa Rosa, the park sits at an elevation of 4,751 feet. The park gate is accessible 24 hours daily, making it convenient for travelers exploring New Mexico's eastern plains.

Directions

From Santa Rosa on Historic Route 66, turn north on 2nd Street (NM Highway 91) and continue approximately 7 miles to the park entrance.
