Conchas Lake
Open year-round. Stage II fire restrictions are currently in effect: campfires, charcoal, and wood stoves are prohibited; only liquid petroleum/LPG devices are allowed in cleared areas. Lake levels are very low; boaters should use caution and launch trailered boats only from the south boat ramp.
About
Conchas Lake State Park encompasses a massive reservoir in northeastern New Mexico, created by Conchas Dam on the Canadian River. The lake stretches 25 miles combining the Conchas River and South Canadian River portions, offering secluded coves, sandy beaches, and excellent fishing for rainbow trout (stocked fall through spring) and German brown trout. Six boat ramps, a marina, and concessionaire stores provide full support for boating, water skiing, sailing, and swimming. Camping options span the full spectrum from primitive shoreline and boat-in sites to developed campgrounds with electric and water hookups. Three recreation areas contain approximately 200 developed sites, while an estimated 500 primitive campsites line the Cove Shoreline and Central Shoreline areas. Bell Point Electric, North Campground Electric, North Campground Non-Electric, and Cove Campground loops offer varied site configurations accommodating RVs up to 57 feet. Amenities include modern restrooms with showers, vault toilets, a dump station, playground, visitor center with exhibits, and a 6-hole disc golf course. The park also features lodging facilities and a nine-hole golf course. Beach access provides opportunities for swimming and sunbathing, while hiking and wildlife viewing attract visitors year-round. Winter activities include ice fishing and cross-country skiing when conditions permit.
Directions
From Tucumcari, head northwest on NM Highway 104 for approximately 32 miles to Conchas Dam. The park entrance is at 501 Bell Ranch Road, Conchas Dam, NM 88416.
