El Porvenir Campground

Closed

The campground has been closed due to post-fire impacts from the 2022 Hermit Peak/Calf Canyon fires and a construction project on Forest Road 261 and the El Porvenir bridge. The construction closure was in effect June 5, 2025 through October 31, 2025. Normal operating season is May through December 31. El Porvenir Campground is nestled in a mixed conifer forest along Beaver Creek at the base of Hermit's Peak within the Pecos-Las Vegas Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest. The campground provides access to several popular trails including Hermit's Peak Trail, Beaver Creek Trail, and Las Dispensas Trail, making it a prime basecamp for day hikes and backpacking trips into the Pecos Wilderness. The campground offers 13 primitive sites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring/grill. Two vault toilets and bear-proof trash bins serve the facility. There is no potable water, utility hookups, dump station, or showers. Users should bring their own water and are encouraged to pack out trash. Restrictions include no horses or horse trailers, no ATVs, and a 3-vehicle maximum per site. Quiet hours are enforced from 10 PM to 7 AM. The campground operates seasonally from May through December 31 on a first-come, first-served basis at $8 per vehicle per night, with 50% discounts for Senior Pass and Access Pass holders.
