About

Sangchris Lake State Park sits minutes east of Springfield on a 3,022-acre cooling lake built for a coal-fired power plant. The warm water discharge creates excellent fishing conditions, particularly for largemouth bass and channel catfish, making this a popular destination for anglers who camp. Two campgrounds serve different areas of the park. Deer Run Campground on the north end offers the largest selection with 80 Class A sites featuring electricity, 40 Class B/S sites with shower access, five walk-in tent sites, and five equestrian campsites. Hickory Point Campground near the east boat dock has 55 Class A electric sites, 10 Class C tent sites, and two rent-a-cabins. Both campgrounds include playground equipment, shower buildings with flush toilets, and sanitary dump stations. The park provides solid accessibility infrastructure with multiple ADA sites at each campground, accessible showers at Hickory Point, wheelchair-accessible picnic tables and grills throughout, and ADA fishing piers. Water facilities shut down from the Monday before Thanksgiving through March 31, but Hickory Point remains open year-round for hardy campers willing to bring their own water during the off-season.
