About

Ewing Point Campsite is a rustic, single-site walk-in campground in the Munising Ranger District of Hiawatha National Forest. Located on the north side of McKeever Lake, this primitive campsite offers a peaceful retreat surrounded by hemlock and cedar trees. The site measures 50 ft by 75 ft and is accessed via a primitive trail approximately 650 feet long that includes a narrow 20-foot bridge. Campers must carry all gear from the parking area at the boat launch. McKeever Lake spans 132 acres and provides excellent fishing opportunities for musky, pike, bass, and panfish. The shallow lake allows for hand-launched boats, though large boats are not recommended. Visitors can enjoy swimming, berry picking, and exploring the 9-mile Bruno's Run Hiking Trail, which is accessible from two locations near the Ewing Point parking area. One section leads to Grassy Lake, while another follows the southeastern portion of McKeever Lake. This is a pack-in, pack-out campsite with no drinking water available on-site. Water can be obtained at nearby Pete's Lake Campground. A pit toilet is provided. The campground operates under a 14-day stay limit, and campsites cannot be left unattended for more than 24 hours. Off-road vehicles are not permitted. Reservations can be made through Recreation.gov.

Directions

From Munising, take State Route M-28 to Wetmore and turn south on Forest Highway 13. Travel about 15 miles, then turn left on Forest Service Road 2173 at the Pete's Lake Campground sign. Turn south at the sign for McKeever Lake. The campsite is accessed through the boat launch area via a 650-foot primitive trail.
