About

Rudds Creek Recreation Area is located on John H. Kerr Reservoir, a 50,000-acre lake that extends 39 miles up the wooded, cove-studded shoreline of the Roanoke River in Virginia and North Carolina. Created with the construction of John H. Kerr Dam in 1952, the reservoir features 800 miles of wooded shoreline stretching across six counties in two states. The campground offers 98 sites for tents or RVs in a forested setting with ample shade. Most sites feature electric and water hookups, and amenities include hot showers, flush toilets, and a dump station. The campground has its own boat ramp and courtesy dock exclusively for campers. A swimming beach and picnic shelter make it ideal for families. All campsites have gravel bases. The campground is located 2 miles from Boydton, Virginia, with a marina less than a mile away. The lake is widely known for fishing, with largemouth bass, striped bass, crappie, and catfish available. Public lands around the lake are open to hunting with appropriate state licenses for whitetail deer, wild turkey, bobwhite quail, mourning dove, gray squirrel, cottontail rabbit, fox, and raccoon. There are 26 Wildlife Management Areas around the lake providing year-round opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, and birding. The Robert Munford Trail, a 5.5-mile multipurpose trail, has a trailhead within 7 miles at Eagle Point Landing.
