About

North Bend Park is the largest park on John H. Kerr Reservoir, a 50,000-acre lake extending 39 miles along the wooded, cove-studded Roanoke River shoreline in Virginia and North Carolina. Located near Kerr Dam and the Corps Visitor Assistance Center, this forested campground offers more than 200 sites for tents and RVs, with both electric and nonelectric options across four loops. The campground provides hot showers, flush toilets, and a dump station for camper convenience. Each camping area has its own swim beach, and the park features a large day-use area with additional picnic shelters, three boat launching ramps, an amphitheater, a disc golf course, and a 1.5-mile paved bicycle trail. Most campsites have gravel bases. Kerr Lake is renowned for fishing, with healthy populations of largemouth bass, striped bass, crappie, and flathead catfish. Wildlife viewing is exceptional, particularly at Tailrace Park below the dam, where bald eagles can be observed in winter and osprey in summer, along with waterfowl, great blue herons, and occasional river otters. The surrounding area offers 26 Wildlife Management Areas with hiking, birding, and hunting opportunities. Nearby trails include the Liberty Nature Trail and Robert Munford Trail, both within a short drive. Gas, groceries, and restaurants are available in Boydton and South Hill.
