About

Round Mountain Campground is perched at 3,100 feet elevation near the top of Round Mountain in Cocke County, making it one of the highest-elevation campgrounds in Cherokee National Forest. The high altitude combined with dense vegetation of rhododendrons and hardwoods creates a naturally cool environment, enhanced by a small mountain stream that runs through the area. This makes it an ideal escape during hot summer months. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis only, with no advance reservations available. Visitors must physically arrive at the campground to purchase and claim a site. Payment can be made via cash or check, or by scanning a QR code using the Recreation.gov mobile app's Scan and Pay feature. Sites are limited to a single family or not more than 5 people and 2 vehicles. No alcoholic beverages are allowed in the area. Bear-proof food storage is required. All food and beverages must be stored in an approved bear-proof container, your locked vehicle, or hard-sided camper at all times unless being eaten, prepared, or transported. The campground has vault toilets but no potable water, so visitors must bring their own water supply.
