About
Rock Creek Campground is a small, scenic campground located in a narrow mountain valley alongside Rock Creek in the Rio Grande National Forest. The 10 sites are set among mature aspen trees, with several positioned right next to the creek. Seven sites are dead-end spurs and three are pull-throughs, with lengths varying from 20 to 40 feet, though not all sites accommodate vehicles at the maximum length. The campground offers a peaceful retreat with light usage levels, making it ideal for those seeking solitude. Fishing is a primary draw, with access to the North and South Forks of Rock Creek requiring a Colorado fishing license. Big game hunting is available in the surrounding forest during season. Hiking trails in the area provide additional recreation opportunities. Facilities are basic: vault toilets and fire rings are provided, but there is no potable water, trash service, or hookups. Campers should come prepared to be self-sufficient, bringing drinking water and packing out all garbage. The access road (County Rd. 28) becomes dirt after 3.1 miles and narrows to single-lane in places, so large RVs should use caution.
