About
Rickwood Caverns State Park Campground provides a unique camping experience above one of Alabama's most remarkable geological features. The park protects a 260-million-year-old limestone cavern system filled with formations, a blind cavefish pool, and fossils from an ancient sea floor. The campground sits in a wooded setting with 13 improved sites offering water and 30/50-amp electric hookups that can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, plus 5 primitive tent sites equipped with fire pits and picnic tables. Overnight guests receive free access to the Olympic-size swimming pool (open mid-May through Labor Day) and discounted cave tour rates. The bathhouse provides modern restrooms and showers, though shower facilities close November through February. A dump station is available on-site. The park also features gemstone mining, a gift shop, playground, and picnic pavilions. Guided cave tours descend 175 feet below the surface where temperatures remain a constant 58-62°F year-round. Reservations are accepted up to one year in advance through the Alabama State Parks reservation system. A 2-night minimum stay is required on weekends, with a 3-night minimum on major holidays. Check-in is 2 PM and check-out is 11 AM. Pets are allowed in the campground but are not permitted inside the cave or park buildings.
