About

Clear Creek Recreation Area is the largest and most visited campground in the Bankhead National Forest, situated on the scenic shores of Lewis Smith Lake in Winston County. The campground features 102 spacious RV sites distributed across four paved loops, including 32 double sites and 11 pull-through sites. All campsites include 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service, water hookups, fire rings, picnic tables, and lantern posts on level, paved parking spurs. Each loop has a bathhouse with flush toilets and hot showers. Two group camping areas accommodate up to 25 tent campers each with shared bathhouse facilities. The recreation area provides direct access to Lewis Smith Lake, known for excellent fishing for largemouth bass, striped bass, and crappie. Day-use facilities include a designated swimming beach with bathhouse, a year-round boat launch, three group picnic pavilions, and 53 family picnic units connected by paved paths. The 1.5-mile paved bicycle trail links the campground to the day-use area, while the 2.5-mile Raven Cliffs hiking trail offers scenic views. Additional amenities include a basketball court, volleyball court, horseshoe pits, and a dump station. Campers must pack out their trash to dumpsters located near the dump station.

Directions

From Jasper, travel approximately 5 miles north on State Road 195 to Manchester, then 8.5 miles north on County Road 27 to entrance. From Double Springs, travel approximately 12 miles south on State Road 195 to Lamon Chapel Road, continue to the end and turn left on County Road 27 for 2 miles to entrance.
