About

Rice Lake State Park is a compact 15-acre day-use area situated on the southern shore of Rice Lake, one of Iowa's few natural shallow lakes. The park's centerpiece is a stone shelter constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934, available for reservation from April through October for picnics, family gatherings, weddings, and similar events. The 1,200-acre lake supports a diverse fishery including bass, bluegill, walleye, yellow perch, northern pike, crappie, and bullheads. Boating is permitted with motors of any size, and water skiing and jet skiing are allowed. The shallow waters and marshy edges provide important habitat for waterfowl and migratory birds. This is strictly a day-use facility with no overnight camping permitted. Visitors seeking overnight accommodations should consider nearby Pilot Knob State Park in Forest City, approximately 10 miles away.
