Angostura Reservoir in the Angostura Recreation Area is a water-lover's haven with breathtaking scenic views. Offering crystal clear waters, 36 miles of shoreline, and some of the finest sandy beaches in the state, the area boasts many water sports and summer fun activities - camping, boating, fishing, and swimming. Each campsite at Angostura Recreation Area has a gravel or paved camping pad, a fire grate and picnic table, and flush toilets and showers are installed. Electric hookups are available at the majority of the campsites. One-room, log-style cabins are found in all four Angostura campgrounds and overlook the reservoir. Each cabin has heating, air conditioning, electricity and a porch. Furnishings include a bunk bed, a double bed, table and benches. Look for walleye, smallmouth bass, crappie, northern pike, largemouth bass, perch and bluegill in Angostura, one of the few large reservoirs in western South Dakota. To help you manage your catch, there is a fishing dock, boat ramp, fish cleaning station and fishing pole checkout. Rent a canoe or kayak to glide along the lake and take in the sights. Among the other amenities at Angostura Recreations Area are a marina, picnic shelter, playground and visitor center. Angostura Recreation Area hosts an array of interpretive and educational activities during the summer season. Each program is geared for families with young children and will expose participants to the various natural and cultural features of the Southern Black Hills. A geocache scavenger hunt takes place every year. The hunt begins on April 1 and ends on October 31. Participants who successfully answer the treasure hunt questions are entered into a drawing for a variety of prizes.

Directions

From Hot Springs, South Dakota, travel 10 miles southeast on US Highways 385/18. Turn south onto North Angostura Road and follow signs to the recreation area.
