About

San Onofre Bluffs Campground is located at 5200 S. Pacific Coast Highway in San Clemente, positioned along the historic Old Highway 101 adjacent to beautiful sandstone bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Part of San Onofre State Beach, this campground offers 3.5 miles of undeveloped beachfront accessed by six quarter-mile-long rugged dirt trails leading down from the bluff top. The beach and campground attract surfers, swimmers, anglers, hikers, bicyclists, and birders year-round. All campsites include a fire pit and picnic table. The campground provides cold outdoor showers and chemical toilets. There are no RV hookups available at the Bluffs, though a dump station is provided for RVs. Maximum vehicle length is 25 feet for both trailers and motorhomes. Reservations are site-specific, meaning campers select their exact site when booking. The area is rich with wildlife viewing opportunities, including whales, dolphins, sea lions, and numerous seabird species. San Onofre State Beach is one of California's most visited parks, hosting nearly 2.5 million visitors annually. The site holds deep cultural significance as the location of Panhe, an ancient sacred Acjachemen village dating back over 8,000 years. Established as a state beach by Governor Ronald Reagan in 1971, the park showcases dramatic coastal geology shaped by landslides, erosion, and seismic activity.
