About

San Clemente State Beach Tent Group Campground provides an oceanfront group camping experience on landscaped bluffs above the Pacific Ocean. The facility offers two dedicated group campsites, with Group Camp 1 accommodating up to 50 people and 20 vehicles. Located within the larger San Clemente State Beach complex that has operated since 1937, the group area sits adjacent to the tent campground section in a eucalyptus-shaded setting with ocean views. The campground features communal flush restrooms with coin-operated hot showers, picnic tables, and fire rings at each group site. Trails descend from the bluff to the mile-long beach below, popular for surfing, body surfing, swimming, and snorkeling. The park's visitor center, housed in a 1934 Spanish Colonial style cottage, offers educational exhibits on local wildlife and marine life. A 2.3-mile Beach Trail connects to nearby coastal areas. Reservations are made through ReserveCalifornia up to six months in advance. The park is open daily from 6 AM to 10 PM. Maximum vehicle length restrictions of 30 feet apply throughout the park. Dogs are not permitted on trails or the beach except for service animals. The campground is located near the south end of San Clemente off I-5 at the Avenida Calafia exit.
