* WHAT...Dangerous and potentially life threatening rip currents and breaking waves due to elevated surf expected. * WHERE...San Luis Obispo County Beaches and Santa Barbara County Central Coast Beaches. * WHEN...Until 11 PM PDT this evening. * IMPACTS...There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents will be widespread and very strong, potentially pulling swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks. Pooling of sea water is possible around high tide at beach areas that is uncommon with normal tidal ranges. Enhanced beach erosion is also possible. No significant damage is expected. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...High tides near 6.5 feet around 830PM.

Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area encompasses approximately six miles of beach and dunes along California's Central Coast within San Luis Obispo County. As one of the last coastal areas in California allowing vehicular recreation, it draws OHV enthusiasts from across the state for riding, camping, and beach access. The camping area provides primitive sites directly on the beach and dunes with no designated pads or hookups. Campers should come prepared for primitive conditions. The area provides vault toilets, drinking water stations, and outdoor rinsing showers near the entrance kiosks. An RV dump station operated by Sani-Star LLC is located on Le Sage Drive, 0.1 miles north of Grand Avenue. Beach camping requires a capable vehicle as soft sand makes access challenging for 2WD vehicles. The speed limit on the beach is 15 mph, and all vehicle activity is prohibited one hour after sunset except for camping-related travel. The park operates within capacity limits and has faced operational changes due to habitat conservation requirements. Nearby Pismo State Beach offers developed campground alternatives with hookups for those seeking more amenities. Directions
From Highway 101, take the Grand Avenue exit in Grover Beach and head west toward the ocean. Continue on Grand Avenue to the beach entrance kiosk. Alternatively, access via Pier Avenue in Oceano to the Pier Avenue entrance kiosk.
