About

Raddue Guard Station is identified as a historic USFS lookout/cabin facility situated in the Malheur National Forest in Grant County, Oregon. Forest Service guard stations were typically built in the 1920s-1930s to house fire patrols and project crews at remote forest locations before modern road networks made daily commutes feasible. The Malheur National Forest currently offers five historic structures for public rental through Recreation.gov: Deer Creek Guard Station, Murderers Creek Guard Station, Short Creek Guard Station, Sunshine Guard Station, and Fall Mountain Lookout. Raddue Guard Station is not among these publicly available facilities, suggesting it may serve administrative purposes or is otherwise not open for public reservation. The forest encompasses 1.7 million acres in Oregon's Blue Mountains, with elevations ranging from 4,000 feet to 9,038 feet at Strawberry Mountain. The area is characterized by ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, high desert grasslands, and serves as the headwaters for the John Day River System.

Directions

Murderers Creek Guard Station is located in the heart of the Malheur National Forest, approximately 32 miles from the town of John Day, Oregon. Access is via vehicle on forest roads through timbered and meadow landscapes. Travelers should prepare for mountainous terrain and changing road conditions, especially outside of summer months.
