About
Chenango Valley State Park is an ice age wonder located in Broome County, New York. The park's two kettle lakes, Lily and Chenango, were created when the last glacier retreated, leaving behind huge chunks of buried ice that melted to form the lakes and bog. This 1,500-acre park offers year-round recreation with seasonal camping from mid-May through mid-October. The campground features 184 campsites distributed across multiple loops: Pine Bluff, Sunrise, and Chipmunk Loops 1-4. Some sites include electric hookups. The park also offers 24 cabins for rent. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring. Birdwatchers may glimpse woodpeckers, nuthatches, warblers, thrushes, herons, ducks, and kingfishers throughout the park. Fishermen will find trout, bass, perch, and bullhead in Chenango Lake. Summer amenities include a guarded swimming beach, boat rentals (rowboats, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards), and an 18-hole golf course. Only car-top boats, kayaks, and canoes are permitted on the lake; no trailers or gas-powered motorized boats allowed. The boating season runs from April 15 to October 15. Winter visitors enjoy sledding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing on park trails, with free snowshoe rentals available by reservation.
