About

Hells Gate State Park is a riverside destination located at the confluence of the Clearwater and Snake Rivers, marking the downstream entrance to Hells Canyon. The park sits at 733 feet elevation, making it Idaho's lowest point, and benefits from a mild climate that supports year-round camping. The 83-site campground includes 51 serviced sites with electric hookups and 29 standard sites, along with 3 ADA-accessible campsites and 8 cabins. Facilities include modern restrooms with flush toilets and free showers, a dump station, drinking water, fire rings at campsites, and firewood sales. The park's marina features over 100 slips and a boat ramp, making it a popular launch point for Snake River and Hells Canyon jet boat trips. The Lewis and Clark Discovery Center offers exhibits and a 32-minute film about the Corps of Discovery expedition, while the Jack O'Connor Hunting Heritage Education Center provides additional historical context. The 6.2-mile Snake River Trail is the park's signature hiking route, offering scenic views and wildlife watching opportunities. An amphitheater hosts interpretive programs, and group picnic shelters and conference rooms are available for larger gatherings.
