About

Crooked River State Park sits on 500 acres along Georgia's Colonial Coast, just miles from I-95 near St. Marys. The campground offers 63 sites surrounded by palmettos and Spanish moss-draped oaks in a maritime forest setting. Most sites provide water and electric hookups, while select premium sites offer full hookups including sewer. All campsites include picnic tables, grills, and fire rings. The park features modern bathhouses with hot showers and a dump station for RV travelers. The park's location along the Intracoastal Waterway makes it popular with boaters and anglers, who frequently use the boat ramp before sunrise. Four miles of nature trails wind through coastal forest and salt marsh, where visitors may encounter gopher tortoises, fiddler crabs, herons, and other native wildlife. A nature center showcases fish, snakes, turtles, and animals native to coastal Georgia. Additional amenities include a bait and tackle shop, bicycle rentals, miniature golf, and a playground. Crooked River serves as an ideal base for exploring nearby Cumberland Island National Seashore, famous for its secluded beaches and wild horses. The ferry to Cumberland Island departs just down the road. Within the park, visitors can explore the ruins of a tabby mill built around 1825 and later used as a starch factory during the Civil War. The park operates year-round with reservations available through the Georgia State Parks system.
