About
Point Amargura Cabin sits at the southern end of San Fernando Island, east of Prince of Wales Island near the community of Craig in the Tongass National Forest. The 15' x 17' metal-roofed cabin features a full loft that sleeps 4, plus one additional bunk, accommodating up to 6 people. The cabin includes a wood stove, axe, maul, and wedges, with an outhouse located nearby. The location is excellent for anglers, with pink, chum, silver, and king salmon plentiful throughout the year, as well as halibut and bottom fish in open water. A mooring buoy on the east side of the point is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Hunters can take advantage of long seasons for Sitka black-tailed deer (late summer through late fall) and black bear (spring and fall). The area is also popular for beachcombing and wildlife viewing, with eagles, shorebirds, deer, and bears commonly spotted. The cabin is surrounded by Sitka spruce and western hemlock on level terrain, with steeper landscape rising nearby. Access is by boat or float plane at high tide from the Craig-Klawock area, approximately 8 miles west of Craig and 70 air miles from Ketchikan. Guests must bring their own water, sleeping bags, cooking equipment, food, and supplies. Inclement weather can cause extended stays at any time of year, so bringing 2-5 days of extra supplies is recommended.
