About
Poe Paddy State Park is a 23-acre primitive campground located at the confluence of Big Poe Creek and Penns Creek in the heart of central Pennsylvania's Bald Eagle State Forest. The park offers a true backcountry camping experience with 34 tent and trailer campsites and five small Adirondack-style lean-tos nestled among thickly wooded sites. The remote location is accessed only via unpaved roads, adding to its rustic character and solitude. The park is renowned among trout anglers for its exceptional fishing opportunities, particularly during the nationally recognized green drake mayfly hatch in June. Both Penns Creek and Big Poe Creek provide excellent stream fishing in a pristine natural setting. Hikers can access the Mid State Trail directly from the campground, offering opportunities for extended backcountry exploration. The park also serves as a popular access point for creek tubing during warmer months. Amenities at Poe Paddy are intentionally basic to preserve the primitive camping experience. The campground features pit toilets and drinking water, with picnic tables and fire rings at each campsite. A sanitary dump station is available at nearby Poe Valley State Park, where campers can also access shower facilities for a fee. Pets are permitted on designated campsites for an additional fee. The park is managed by Reeds Gap State Park, and winter access cannot be guaranteed as roads are not maintained for snow removal and are shared with snowmobile traffic.
