Pocahontas Shelter is one of seven picnic shelters available for rental at Pocahontas State Park, located just 20 miles from downtown Richmond in Chesterfield County. These day-use facilities are designed for group gatherings and outdoor events rather than overnight camping. All picnic shelters at the park are handicapped accessible and equipped with running water and outdoor grills. The shelter provides a convenient base for enjoying the park's extensive recreational offerings, including 90-plus miles of trails, three lakes for fishing and boating, and the seasonal Aquatic Center. Rentals run from 8:00 am to sunset and are reserved through the Virginia State Parks reservation system. A $10 cancellation fee applies up to 14 days prior to the reservation, with no refund within 14 days of arrival. Pocahontas State Park is Virginia's largest state park, offering year-round access to outdoor recreation. The park also features overnight accommodations including campsites, cabins, yurts, and a lodge, but the picnic shelters themselves are for day-use only.
