This is a day-use picnic shelter, not an overnight camping facility. Available for rental from 6 a.m. to park closing. Reservations accepted online or by phone through Virginia State Parks. The park is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to dusk.

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has issued a Code ORANGE Air Quality Alert across the Richmond Metro Area and the Hampton Roads Area...for Ground Level Ozone...from midnight tonight to midnight EDT Thursday night. A Code Orange Air Quality Alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children...people suffering from asthma... heart disease or other lung diseases...and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors. Pocahontas Shelter is one of seven rental picnic shelters at Pocahontas State Park in Chesterfield County, Virginia. These are day-use facilities only, available from 6 a.m. until dusk. Large shelters (2, 3, 4, 5) accommodate 70-80 people while small shelters (1, 6, 7) hold 30-40 people. Amenities include picnic tables, outdoor grills, and varying access to water spigots and restroom facilities. The park itself spans over 7,900 acres and offers 90-plus miles of trails, three lakes for fishing and boating, and a seasonal Aquatic Center. Reservations for shelters are made through the Virginia State Parks reservation system online or by calling 1-800-933-PARK. Parking is not included in shelter rental fees. For overnight stays at Pocahontas State Park, visitors should consider the campgrounds, cabins, yurts, camping cabins, or lodge accommodations available separately. The picnic shelters do not permit overnight camping.
