About
Plum Creek Campgrounds encompasses four distinct camping areas within the Lake Meredith National Recreation Area in the Texas Panhandle. Located off FM 1913 on the southwest side of the lake, this primitive campground offers free, first-come first-served camping with no reservations required. The campground features beautiful groves of cottonwood trees that provide welcome shade during hot Panhandle summers and transform into stunning displays of red, yellow, orange, and gold during autumn. The area is particularly popular with equestrians, as it includes horse corrals and water troughs. Devil's Canyon Trail offers terrain suitable for beginner to experienced horseback riders, as well as hikers and mountain bikers. Wildlife watchers and birders will find excellent opportunities throughout the area. Facilities are primitive with vault-evaporator toilets only. There is no drinking water, flush toilets, or showers available. Campers must bring all water needed for their stay. Picnic tables, shade shelters, and grills are provided. Trailers and RVs are permitted, though roads through the campground are unpaved.
