About
Pink Jeep Campground offers one of the most remote camping experiences in South Florida, tucked deep within the Bear Island Unit of Big Cypress National Preserve. The nine primitive tent sites are only accessible via permitted off-road vehicle, bicycle, or on foot, making this a destination for adventurous campers seeking genuine backcountry solitude. Each site features a picnic table and fire ring, with seasonal vault toilets serving the area. The campground lies within the larger Big Cypress watershed, a critical extension of the Everglades ecosystem supporting panthers, black bears, and countless wading birds. During the dry season (November through April), trails are firmer and wildlife congregates around remaining water sources. The wet season brings flooded trails, deep mud, and seasonal closures. Campers must obtain a backcountry permit (self-issued, print in advance) before arrival. Those arriving by ORV need a valid Big Cypress ORV permit ($100), and the gate code is only provided at the permitting office with proof of proper permits. No trailers or RVs are permitted; pickup truck campers and tents only. Cell service is extremely limited, so reservations should be made online in advance through Recreation.gov. No cash is accepted on-site.
Directions
Accessible only by off-road vehicle, bicycle, or foot through the Bear Island Unit. Gate combination provided at permit office to those with valid ORV permits.
